The Congresses of Polish Economists, held every few years, are prestigious events that provide a platform for debate on the key challenges facing the Polish economy and the economic sciences. Their tradition dates back to 1887, when Polish economists and lawyers from the three partitions organized the First Congress of Economists and Lawyers in Kraków.
The history of the Congresses of Polish Economists demonstrates that they have taken place under various socio-economic and political conditions, with the guiding ideas of economists reflecting the spirit of their time — a distinctive signum temporis.
The First Congress of Economists and Lawyers
This congress-like event brought together around 200 participants. Among the papers presented were inspiring contributions such as Witold Skarżyński’s On the Necessity and Possibility of a Thorough Reform of Land Credit and Antoni Donimirski’s On Internal Colonization. These historic proceedings laid the foundation for a tradition that modern congresses proudly uphold, attracting the attention of scholars, practitioners, and economic leaders alike.
